Very neat concept. Take a daytime image of a city skyline and match it with an image of equal orientation from a dark sky region at the same latitude. The result: eerie (yet serene) images of cities as they might look minus all the light pollution they generate.
(The APOD image comes from a larger series of Darkened Cities by Thierry Cohen: http://thierrycohen.com/pages/work/starlights.html.)
Interesting new album of violin/prepared piano music by Hilary Hahn and Hauschka. Drawing influence from oriental music and perhaps from composers such as Philip Glass and Tan Dun, this music manages to be both eerie and enchanting. It could almost come out of a Miyazaki film like Spirited Away or something!
Here is a link to a neat app that allows you to examine the relative size of lots of things in the universe, from the edge of the universe to the quantum foam of spacetime. Clicking on the items pops up an informative (and often humorous) description. As my sister noted, this guy is judging the entire universe!
